Your time, your baby’s rhythm, your way.

A Letter from Our Founder

To my fellow moms,

The nursing band originated in my mind, one of the countless times I was painstakingly retracing my day to try to remember the times I fed my son, Bo, and the last side I fed him on. If I’m being honest, the idea started pestering me while I was nursing my first son, Leo. But, I got pregnant with my daughter, Eloise, when he was just 6 months old. And then, those first 6 months with my daughter were so hard, that I buried that postpartum period deeply, the first chance I could.

I’m sure this interrupted journey is not just my own, but the journey of so many of you in your lives, careers, and even just hours throughout your day. How many times have you found your warmed coffee in the microwave hours later, but now cold?

The postpartum period and breastfeeding, in particular, ask so much from already overstretched moms. But, here’s the thing, when you find your way and learn your baby’s rhythm, the hard stuff also becomes so rewarding and beautiful. This is particularly true when you’re armed with the knowledge of how breastfeeding benefits your health and your baby’s. This was my experience with my last baby, Bo. After a difficult breastfeeding journey with my daughter, featuring all the hallmark challenges: tongue and lip ties, food intolerances, reflux, and oversupply, my mindset going into delivery with Bo was to get back to the basics. A big part of that was the breastfeeding community I had around me, namely Kat, and the flexibility I had with my job.

Baby Bo was born a week late, and on the day clean water finally returned to Asheville after Hurricane Helene. November 18th, 2024. I like to say he has been redemptive for me. I got the redo on my delivery and breastfeeding that I so desperately craved, but what I really got was the freedom to just listen to my baby and myself…finally. The irony is that he was born in the midst of a natural disaster, shaking my physical home to its core, but every piece of his birth and breastfeeding journey has made me feel more at home in myself. I wish this type of redemption for all you second, third, fourth, fifth time Moms out there. And, if you’re going into this breastfeeding journey for the first time, I want to help you avoid so many of the challenges I got stuck in.

And right there is the birth of the nursing band: part bracelet, part band of women supporting women. A beautiful, functional bracelet, that solves an immediate breastfeeding challenge-the mental load of tracking what actually matters- without all the added noise, complication, and stress of technology. And a keepsake that you can cherish beyond your breastfeeding journey; a reminder of just how badass you are and that special bond between you and your baby.  But, that’s not enough for exhausted, isolated, overstretched moms. You also need knowledge and community at your fingertips; our milestone bundles and band of women will bring you that, too.

I hope you let us help you navigate this amazing, hard, exhausting, beautiful time. And, I hope you stick with us in this community, and we’ll stick with you every step of the way.

Mary

P.S. My daughter, Ellie, is a spicy, resilient, healthy, and happy 4 year old now. I couldn’t love her anymore. If you’re in it like I was, you’ll get there, too.

“Breastfeeding is a natural ‘safety net’ against the worst effects of poverty. If the child survives the first month of life (the most dangerous period of childhood) then for the next four months or so, exclusive breastfeeding goes a long way toward canceling out the health difference between being born into poverty and being born into affluence…. It is almost as if breastfeeding takes the infant out of poverty for those first few months in order to give the child a fairer start in life and compensate for the injustice of the world into which it was born.”
